Full Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Content Producer to lead the Impact Outreach team as it delivers its exciting and diverse remit to create content and share digital skills with young audience aged 5-32 across Scotland. The Impact Outreach team is an innovative and agile unit delivering high quality digital first content for a range of platforms through our projects The Social and The Lab, as well as face to face events and our successful college module partnership The Social Connects. This team also collaborates with production colleagues across the organisation, from BBC News Scotland to Radio Scotland to Bitesize, exploring the widest possible audience opportunities for content ideas. BBC The Social is an award-winning digital content stream for the 18-34 audience in Scotland. The Social discovers and develops up and coming digital talent, helps them create authentic and brand new forms of content, and publishes this content across BBC Scotland maintained social and digital channels. The LAB delivers outreach workshops across Scotland, helping school age children make film and audio content enabling them to tell their own local stories. These are often topical and can also be curriculum related, and also include the very popular soundwalks., This role is for a confident, imaginative Senior Content Producer with experience of leading a team and managing multiple projects, partners and stakeholders.As well as being able to support the team practically when the busy schedule calls for it, they should be able to:

  • Work closely with the Executive Editor and senior team to provide strategic and editorial direction, and set priorities for The Social and The LAB
  • Lead, advise and motivate a small, multiskilled team on a daily basis
  • Have excellent editorial judgement and know how to make appropriate decisions around digital content, as well as when to seek additional guidance
  • Ensure the team delivers its commissions to a high standard, on time and on budget
  • Demonstrate an obvious passion for digital and social media, how it connects with the target audience, and have the ability to correctly assess digital results to form new ideas and solutions
  • Be technically adept, be able to generate plenty of great ideas and have an excellent knowledge of contemporary culture
  • Lead on ensuring the Impact Outreach team works with a wide and diverse set of contributors, voices and range of opinions, as well as making sure subjects are featured in a way which will appeal to and be appropriate for the target audience
  • Liaise successfully with colleagues and partners inside and outside the BBC

    Be an experienced team leader, able to manage and lead a high performing team
  • Proven skill in managing multiple stakeholders, budgets and deliverables for separate projects simultaneously
  • Be experienced and confident dealing with complex editorial and legal matters, with a solid working knowledge of the BBC Editorial Guidelines
  • Have a thorough understanding of the digital media landscape with a command of high volume, low-cost Digital production techniques based around Adobe Creative Cloud (or similar)
  • A passion for The Social/LAB ethos and a track record of creating compelling content in a range of formats for a young and diverse demographic
  • Belief in the importance of supporting and developing the people you lead, and in building and maintaining an inclusive and positive team culture
  • The ability to assess risk and to remove barriers for the team, ensuring their work is undertaken as safely as possible

    Salary: £39,800 - £53,000 per annum depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights Fixed Term Contract / Attachment until March 2025 We're happy to discuss flexible working.
