Full Job Description

As a Senior DevOps Engineer at MoJ, you will work with colleagues across Technology Services and build strong relationships with Service Owners, Information Security, Customer Service Operational Teams, Delivery Managers, Product Managers and other key stakeholders. You will share knowledge of tools and techniques with the wider team and community. You will be comfortable working across multi-disciplinary teams and flexible enough to adjust, at short notice, to immediate demand. In this role you will work as part of the Network Operations Centre and assist the Lead Engineer in managing additional requests for tools or infrastructure that are deemed necessary as part of our wider strategy. You will also provide a dedicated 3LS function dealing with service requests, tickets and major incidents. There is an occasional need for work to be done OOH's and you will be compensated for any of these occasions.   • Ensure the correct implementation of standards and procedures, identify capacity issues, stipulate the required changes, and instigate these. You know how to initiate remedial action.
  • Design solutions and services with security controls embedded, specifically engineered as mitigation against security threats as a core part of the solutions and services.
  • Analyse current processes, identify and implement opportunities to optimise processes, and lead and develop a team of experts to deliver service improvements. You can help to evaluate and establish requirements for the implementation of changes by setting policy and standards

  • Collaborate with others to review specifications and use these agreed specifications to design, code, test and document programs or scripts of medium-to-high complexity, using the proper standards and tools.

You know how to select appropriate design standards, methods and tools and ensure they are applied effectively. You can review the systems designs of others to ensure the selection of right technology, efficient use of resources and the integration of multiple systems and technology.
  • Prioritise and define approaches to understand the user story, guiding others in doing so, offer recommendations on the best tools and methods to be used.

  • You have been involved in systems designs of others to ensure the selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources and the integration of multiple systems and technology. You can share evidence of automating the deployment of whole systems, or systems components, across multiple environments using code.
  • Experience of AWS (Networking with Route 53, VPC, EC2, SES, Security Groups and deploying custom AMIs as well as managing RDS instances), Azure (managing enterprise applications and application proxies for secure remote access and integration) and Terraform (proficient in using Terraform for infrastructure provisioning, managing AWS cloud infrastructure as IaC).
  • Linux (Ubuntu) and Windows Server (managing and maintaining) Administration: Skilled in managing servers, ensuring security, performance, and reliability.
  • GitHub and GitHub Actions: Experienced in code management using GitHub, and proficient in configuring automated workflows with GitHub Actions using YAML.
  • SolarWinds: Understanding and managing infrastructure monitoring with SolarWinds, including deploying and maintaining pollers, web servers, application servers, and databases.
  • Knowledge of Cisco Switches/Routers, DNAC (Cisco Catalyst Center), ISE, Palo Alto NGFW's, VPN's, SASE and Juniper Mist products.

This role aligns against Senior Devops Engineer from the Government Digital and Data Framework.     The national salary range is £56,532 - £64,048, London salary range is £61,201 - £69,338.
