Full Job Description

Mitie is passionate about bringing about nature-positive change for our customers. This role plays an important part in achieving our Plan Zero goals.

You will help our customers bring nature recovery into their net zero journey, assessing our customer's landscapes and submitting ecological reports and recommendations on how they can improve their properties for both nature and people.

You will implement new ways of working within our business to ensure continual improvements to our ecological and environmental services as well as advise on an deliver a range of ecological and environmental surveying and reporting, to enable our customers to progress planning applications.

You should be familiar with new and developing environmental management practices and comfortable with engaging with colleagues internally to advise on ecological best practice within our sector.

You will also engage with ecological and environmental suppliers and partners to ensure we deliver best practice for our customers.

What will you do day to day?

The Senior Ecologist is a key project delivery role, embedded within the Natural Environment team. In this role you will:

Be conversant with our key customer's targets, achievements, and challenges and ensure we deliver this on a service delivery level. Deliver high quality, focussed reporting to managers on ecological and environmental services.You will also deliver continuous improvements into our internal ecological and environmental governance processes and ensure professional standards are met, and follow our risk management plans.

Other key duties will include working with multiple in house teams to help towards tenders and bids and ensuring there is consistent pipeline

Who will you work with?

You will deliver ecological and environmental projects for Mitie Landscapes and our customers. You will be representing the ecology team across the business, helping to raise awareness of our services to the wider Mitie Landscapes organisation.

Degree level or higher in an ecology or environmental subject, or other relevant qualification

-Field-based ecology training

-Member of, or working towards, a relevant Professional Institute (such as CIEEM)

Experience & Skills

-Minimum of 5 years' experience of working in an ecological capacity

-2+ survey class licenses for protected species: a Class 2 Bat survey license, and CL35 Badger license are highly desirable

-Knowledge of the Biodiversity Net Gain process, and an ability to operate DEFRA's BNG matrix

-Knowledge of the planning system in the context of ecology, and the ability to accurately deliver reports including some or all of the following: BNG; HRA's; PEA's; EcIA's; LEMP's

-Knowledge of the planning system in the context of environmental assessments and reporting is advantageous, with Peatland Assessments experience being particularly desirable

-Up-to-date knowledge of ecological and environmental legislation and how it impacts our business and our customers

-Experience of working within business processes and systems to the best effect

-Understand the suitability of ecological and environmental solutions for differing customer aims

-Successfully adapt to changing project parameters while maintaining professionalism, and delivering results safely

-Willingness to travel and work nationally, with overnight stays as required

-Excellent abilities in reporting software, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Publisher, and PowerPoint
