Full Job Description

  • Write, edit, produce and send the newsletter for a global audience to a tight deadline
  • Craft interesting, engaging and accurate subject lines
  • Use your understanding of newsletters to pick the most interesting and engaging content to share with audiences twice-daily
  • Use audience metrics and knowledge of the newsletter market to continually develop the email
  • Build and maintain a close relationship with the digital team in North America and other BBC teams

    Significant experience as a digital platforms journalist, preferably with a track record of commissioning and editing international news and current affairs for newsletter audiences
  • Confidence when working with correspondents and journalists in other parts of the world to deliver interesting and original takes on current events
  • A good understanding of the BBC's structure and the content we produce, and ideas for how we make that content relevant to a North American newsletter audience
  • Strong writing skills and experience of taking editorial decisions quickly and independently while under pressure to meet deadlines and a changing news agenda
  • A rich appreciation of the newsletter market and a thorough understanding of audience metrics in this field

    The BBC News website is one of the world's largest and most popular news sites. We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative senior journalist to play a key role in our global newsletters team in London, UK, and in our ambitious plans to grow our audience in North America.
  • The senior journalist we are seeking will create engaging and informative content for a twice-daily newsletter showcasing the best in the BBC's original reporting, innovative digital storytelling and rich global perspective on both US and international news. This will need to be global in nature but appeal specifically to North American audiences. It's a job for someone equally comfortable with commissioning, writing and editing news and feature copy as with curation of content, and someone who is skilled at working quickly and independently. The job is based at BBC Broadcasting House, in London, and will be five days a week.     Salary: £39,800 - £50,300 plus London Weighting, depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights. Contract type: Permanent Location: Office Base is London Broadcasting House. This is a hybrid role and the successful candidate will balance office working with home working. We're happy to discuss flexible working.
