This is an exciting opportunity within the General Surgery and Orthopaedic Clinical Care Group for a highly experienced Registered Nurse to provide nursing leadership to the unscheduled surgery front door area.  The areas of responsibility will be wards 7, 8 and the Acute Surgical Receiving Unit (ASRU) although there may be a change of portfolio in the future should there be a change of services.

Ward 7 is a 24 bedded surgical emergency admitting ward. Ward 8 is for shorter stay general surgical and vascular patients with ASRU being an assess to admit multiple surgical specialty (general surgery, vascular, urology, breast, urgent GP orthopaedics and occasionally neurosurgery) front door that receives referrals from GPs, ED and the relevant specialities. This will provide the post-holder with the opportunity to advance their career, shape the quality of patient care and influence service improvement in a very supportive environment within the triumvirate structure.

This Senior Nurse post will have operational and managerial responsibility for the nursing teams working in collaboration with the multi-professional leads and CCG triumvirate to support the provision of safe and effective clinical services. They will be responsible for key deliverables of the optimising patient flow and access project within ASRU leading on key aspects of the project. They will provide visible and supportive leadership to the ANP team who provide a call handling service, accepting referrals from GP within ASRU.

The post holder will be expected to demonstrate the ability to manage effective teams whilst providing senior leadership to the nursing workforce.  They will ensure that professional and operational priorities are delivered to the highest standard and that person-centred cultures are developed and embraced by the multi-disciplinary team.

Your experience should be broad and encompassing including both clinical and managerial expertise with the ability to demonstrate knowledge of organisational and professional policies. There is an expectation that you will be a compassionate transformational leader who has a passion for team development and support whilst recognising and developing talent to enhance the service and patient experience.  Other elements of the role will include project management, improvement work, and effective and efficient budget management whilst contributing to the capacity and flow hub professional lead rota.

You must be registered on Level 1 Nurse Entry Code RN1, RNA and level 2 Nurse Entry Code RN9 of the UK NMC register. In addition, a comprehensive knowledge within the specific field of practice with relevant post basic study at the level of 1st degree is essential.

A Higher Degree at masters level or the ability to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge and experience is desirable to influence practice within the speciality and to mentor and supervise staff undertaking this level of academic/clinical study

Hours of work are:  37 hours per week.  The shift pattern is required to be flexible to meet the needs of the service
