Job Description

The main purpose of the Senior Occupational Therapy Assistant is to support the Occupational Therapy Team to provide a specialist service to people in the community who are experiencing physical disabilities, to enable them to live as independently a life as possible with optimal functional performance. A degree of flexibility will be required, to meet the demands of the service. The post holder will cover areas such as equipment and adaptations, falls prevention, assessment and provision of Telecare equipment. The main area of work will be completing bathing assessments that may lead to the recommendation and provision of a level access shower and shower equipment . The post holder will need to form close links to housing services.

Requirements

To undertake and record assessment of basic needs. Leading to the provide equipment and adaptations.

To complete bathing assessments leading to the provision of level access showers and static and mobile shower seating.

To co- work with housing re the provision of LAS in Council properties

Instruct clients and their carers in the safe use of equipment and organise minor adaptations and major level access shower adaptations

Manage own case-load under the supervision of the OT and carry out check and review visits on own cases or as delegated by the OT where appropriate.

Order online equipment from The Joint Equipment Store to meets client’s needs and inline with assessment process.

To take reasonable care for the health and safety of self, other staff and service users as defined by Council policy and other relevant documentation and training.

The Individual

Experience of working with people who have disabilities.
Desirable for candidate to have Experience or knowledge of working as an OTA
Educated to H level with English
Knowledge and experience of Microsoft office packages, including Excel and Access

Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
Be able to exercise own initiative and make decisions including priority of workload
Ability to work independently and to use initiative.

You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Moray to meet the operational requirements of the Service. Due to the rural nature of Moray this is normally undertaken by use of a car.
Ability to work in a team. Calm, empathetic & confidential manner. Ability to form good working relationships with staff, clients and their carers
