We are recruiting two Senior Planning Officers to join our refreshed Development Management Teams. We have opportunities in both the Invest NL Team which deals with major investment proposals and our Development Management Team that deals with Local and Householder applications. In North Lanarkshire we deal with a broad range of development types and are looking for experienced Planners with who can lead on providing technical advice to developers and mentor junior members of staff to encourage career progression.

Your role:

  • Review and assess planning applications.
  • Prepare and present reports to our Planning Committee.
  • Deputising for the Planning Managers as appropriate.
  • Provide general advice on the planning process, including pre-application advice.
  •  Undertake public engagement and attend meetings with local community groups.
  •  Contribute towards Corporate and Service strategies, policies, programmes and projects.
  • Supervising and carrying out duties as required within the Planning and Place Team, ensuring effective day to day administration and enforcement of the relevant legislation to meet targets and deadlines, and to ensure all relevant duties and Standing Orders, policies and procedures of the council are carried out.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of staff training and mentoring.

 What you will bring:

  • Degree or Diploma in Town Planning.
  • Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
  • Considerable relevant post-qualification experience.
  • Knowledge of forthcoming planning developments/initiatives.
  • Ability to travel throughout North Lanarkshire and surrounding areas.

Desirable:

  • Leadership or management qualification.
  • Experience in supervising staff.
