The post

The post of Senior Quality Assurance Pharmacist offers an exciting opportunity for a pharmacist with aseptic / production experience to expand their knowledge regarding Pharmaceutical Quality assurance, tracer radiolabelling, radiopharmaceutical quality control techniques and develop their leadership skills whilst contributing to the smooth running of our comprehensive clinical Radiopharmacy service.


The post-holder will maintain the departments Pharmaceutical Quality Systems (PQS), with a particular focus on PET radiopharmaceuticals and will support the radiopharmacy team with day-to-day operations.

The work of the Radiopharmacy includes dispensing and quality control of diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals, performing autologous radio- cell labellings, as well as supporting the provision of an in-vitro laboratory service.

The post-holder is required to work to extremely high standards of accuracy and will act as an IR(ME)R Entitled Authorised Pharmacist on a daily basis and will deputise for the accountable pharmacist in their absence.

Successful applicants will be part of a friendly, supportive and experienced team that provides high quality specialist services which include the production of 68Ga-radiopharmaceuticals, and clinical trials.

Applicants must hold a Masters degree in pharmacy and be registered with the General Pharmacy Council (GPhC). The post holder should have a post graduate Diploma/MSc or be able to demonstrate evidence of advanced professional practice knowledge, training and experience equivalent to that level (e.g development of evidence within the core advanced pharmacist practice portfolio) 

The successful candidate will be supported through the Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Assurance (PTQA) diploma (subject to availability of spaces on the course). 

It is a requirement of the job that the post holder has a flexible approach to work and is available to start work at 07:00.

Hours of work are:  37 hrs per week over a 5-day week.

On call and weekend working are not service requirements for this post.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
