Applicants are invited to apply for a Fixed Term Research Fellowship position in NHS Tayside within the Department of Surgery based at Ninewells Hospital and Medical School, Dundee. This post is due to start in February 2025 for a fixed term period of three (3) years to complete a full time PhD. The fellow will work within the Department of General Surgery to conduct their research under the supervision and guidance of a Consultant Surgeon. The intended research will be on the TAY.CA.N trial, a longitudinal observational study on the utilisation of circulating tumour DNA (liquid biopsies) as a biomarker for assessment of response to treatment and prediction of disease recurrence in pancreatic and colorectal cancer. The trial is funded in full and there is separate funding for the fellow salary by the Department of Surgery. Additionally, the fellow will be expected to contribute to the senior general surgical on-call registrar rota and actively participate in the care of emergency surgical patients. The appointees will be expected to perform at a level of ST6 equivalent or higher and they will need to hold a national training number in General Surgery with subsequent eligibility for a higher degree.
