Senior Support Worker

Kirklea, 3 Dundonald Road, Kilmarnock, Scotland, KA1 1EQ, Kilmarnock

Pay Rate: £13.16 per hour

Shifts: 33 hours per week/ 8am-8pm

Job Description 

Our teams provide care and support for individuals with different conditions at Priory sites all across the UK. 

Your positive attitude and passion for providing high quality care and support will be your key strengths, but you'll also have a friendly, patient and positive approach to work.  

You will provide support with day to day activities, whilst encouraging and promoting independent living. As part of our team, you’ll help people reach their potential, through both practical and emotional support, making a positive difference to their lives. 

You will have gained experience in a similar setting, supervising and leading others. While a formal qualification is not required, you should be willing to complete a Level 3 qualification in Team leadership and management with Priory.

Responsibilities 

  • Encouraging people to live as independently as possible, while supporting them in building their life skills and achieving goals at their own pace 
  • Supervise colleagues, lead team meetings and support your peers with their performance and professional development 
  • Lead support planning and act as point of contact in the absence of site leadership 
  • Assist with the management of site petty cash and client funds 
  • Supporting with personal care tasks, such as washing, dressing, eating and personal care 
  • Performing light housekeeping tasks, such as dusting, vacuuming, and changing bed clothes 
  • Assisting with safe lifting, transferring, repositioning and movement of individuals 
  • Assistance and support to attend medical appointments 
  • Observe, monitor, and record physical and emotional well-being, and quickly report any changes to senior staff 
  • Supporting the development of important family connections and liaising with specialists, including Speech & Language Therapists and Learning Disability teams 
  • Encouraging participation in social and recreational activities that promote involvement and personal growth 

Qualifications and Skills 

  • Previous experience in a similar setting 
  • Good numeracy skills  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a caring nature 
  • Empathy, understanding and patience 
  • Ability to work on your own and as part of a team 
  • Ability to understand and follow policies and procedure 
  • The ability to anticipate and respond to challenges 
  • Competent in verbal and written English 
  • A healthcare qualification is desirable, but not essential

Kirklea is located in the centre of Kilmarnock, within walking distance of a thriving local community. It offers residential support for 11 people on the autism spectrum, who may also have a learning disability, or physical health needs. Our team are dedicated to supporting, empowering and encouraging the people we care for to develop the skills they need to live as independently as possible and achieve positive outcomes for all.
