Full Job Description
As a Senior System Engineer at Thales IAS UK, you will design world-class Fire Control and Air Defence Systems that meet our customers' needs with impeccable performance. Working within an agile, multi-disciplinary team, your responsibilities will span the entire product lifecycle. From requirements capture and analysis to defining system architecture and optimising designs, you will play a key role in building, testing, and verifying solutions.,
- Capture, define, and develop requirements based on customer and business needs.
- Design systems with customer deployment in mind.
- Define system architecture, interfaces, behaviour, and flow-down requirements.
- Collaborate with specialists to inform and refine system design and performance.
- Optimise design through system trades, analyses, and prototyping.
- Define and assess verification activities to ensure product compliance.
- Diagnose complex system faults during integration and testing.
- Document design decisions and rationale in technical artefacts.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to team members, sharing knowledge within the wider systems team.
You ideally possess a Bachelor's Degree (BEng, BSc) in a Numerate, Scientific, or Engineering discipline, with experience in many of the following areas: - Requirements capture, management, and product specification.
- Knowledge of defence systems such as C2, Fire Control, Sensors, Effectors.
- Experience designing systems, interfaces, and behaviours.
- Ability to design for Non-functional, EMC, Environmental, Eco, Security & Safety requirements.
- Expertise in designing for relevant Legislative and Regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with defence standard requirements and common interface protocols.
- Proficiency in system design processes, methods, and tools.
- Knowledge of modelling methods (e.g., SysML) and Defence Architectural Frameworks (e.g., MODAF).
- Understanding of Systems, Hardware, and Software engineering lifecycles.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to navigate complexity and shape solutions.
- Exceptional communication skills, capable of articulating complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
