Who are we?

Kibble is Scotland’s specialist provider of services for at risk children and young people. By providing a range of integrated services, we help build positive futures for children and young people aged 5 plus, with complex social, emotional and educational needs.

Job Purpose:

The post involves direct working with young people who, because of difficulties in the community (e.g. offending), are unable to remain at home and who, at the instruction of a Children’s Hearing or a Court, must be accommodated by Kibble.

Main Duties:

  • To encourage the personal development of each child and, where appropriate, assisting in routines, activities etc. with colleagues.
  • To work as part of a designated staff team, operating at all times within Centre and House Policies.
  • To participate, as appropriate, in the house communication system. This may be verbally e.g. at staff handovers, meetings, by telephone etc. or in written form e.g. log books, diaries and, where appropriate, case notes.
  • To work within appropriate personal and professional boundaries, ensuring all information regarding young people and staff is treated with appropriate levels of confidentiality and sensitivity.
  • To provide a safe environment for all young people and staff by being vigilant at all times, complying with Health and Safety guidelines, and maintaining appropriate checks on young people and the unit environment.
  • To undertake any other relevant duties as directed by a senior staff member.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • A range of life experiences.
  • Able to form professional relationships with young people and staff.
  • Able to maintain a consistent, professional and non-confrontational approach at all times.
  • A basic understanding of the issues confronting young people within Kibble.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Self-awareness.
  • Previous experience of working with children is desirable.
  • A flexible approach to working is essential as the Centre operates 24/7, 365 days per year.
  • Possess a full driving licence and be willing and able to drive school transport
