WHAT WE NEED

  • We are looking for a SHEQ Advisor to join the team to provide support to the Head of SHEQ and Port of Aberdeen departments in the continual improvement of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality culture and performance.
  • The SHEQ Advisor will develop, review and maintain policies, emergency plans and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards, relevant legislation, and ensure alignment with new regulations and best practice.
  • The role will provide support across the port with the management, maintenance and evaluation of the integrated management system, co-ordinate the risk assessment process and lead the health, safety, environment response to incident investigations.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring SHEQ visibility throughout the port and continuously promoting improvement of the health, safety, environment and quality culture and performance with employees and stakeholders
  • Provide input to the creation, development and communication of SHEQ policies and procedures, keeping up to date with new regulations and best practice and their impact on the port
  • Audit the Port of Aberdeen’s health, safety, environmental and quality performance, ensuring quality assurance with all PoA’s documentation to maintain ISO accreditations in 45001, 14001 and 9001.
  • In conjunction with SHEQ Advisors and Environmental Manager, develop and implement a programme of Audits & Inspections scheduled in the Integrated Safety Management System
  • Report, record and investigate relevant health, safety, environment and quality issues to senior management and board level.
  • Undertake site visits to review and support port staff and stakeholders in their completion of investigations and the identification of root causes and preventative measures.
  • Assist third parties undertaking work in the port, observing activities quayside, ensuring port policies and procedures are followed correctly and required documentation is in place.
  • Facilitate and organise Port Security Forums, RoES Meetings and Monthly SHEQ Management Reviews.
  • Prepare and maintain the externally issued monthly report and the internal monthly SHEQ report and Board report.
  • Provide support to the Environmental Manager, assisting with environmental awareness, promoting best practice and supporting with Environmental incident investigations

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree qualified relevant discipline or significant Health, Safety and Environment experience and NEBOSH qualification
  • Experience in providing SHEQ advice including direct exposure to port marine and maintenance operations and management systems
  • Good awareness of risk and demands of a Port environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001 and Health & Safety legislation.
  • Strong understanding of Quality and Safety documentation and experience of working with controlled document management systems.
  • Train the trainer qualified and the ability to deliver engaging employee and contractor inductions and health and safety training.
  • Confident in challenging practices and driving improvements at all levels of the organisation.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate with a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Analytical skills to interpret detailed information and regulations
  • Problem-solving/ solution orientation with good attention to detail effective at closing out actions
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and customers.

  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
