Our award-winning sustainable projects, including active travel, Passivhaus and retrofit, demonstrate our commitment to supporting Scotland's transition towards net zero in the built environment., We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Site Agent to join our construction teams on the A9 highways Tomatin to Moy project. This major civils project will run from 2024 to the end of 2026 with a value of £130M and boasts excellent career development opportunities as the project progresses. Key responsibilities will include providing management, leadership and control of a multi-disciplinary team comprising Sub Agents, Section Engineers, Site Engineers & Foremen in the design and construction of 9km of new dual carriageway including the associated earthworks, drainage, access tracks, structures and utilities, situated near Inverness in the North of Scotland. Due to recent contract awards we also have additional opportunities throughout the North & Central Belt of Scotland in our civils, highways and major builds teams. What you'll be doing Core
- Live the Balfour Beatty Values

- Support the delivery of CSUK's Sustainability activities
- Motivate section team and manage performance; monitor the competency of team members and undertake training/ coaching as appropriate Health Safety & Environmental
- Sets targets and KPI's in line with Project / Business objectives and monitors performance
- Carries out periodic Safety & Environment Tours as required by the Project H & S Plan
- Assists Lead in Incident Investigation and information gathering / review.
- Appraises improvement options and actions / instigates as appropriate
- Leads periodic risk reviews and takes output forward to the Project Risk Register
- Monitors effectiveness of the H & S Management System
- Keeps up to date with changes in legislation and cascades information to the team Engineering Control
- Ensures that sufficient resources are allocated to the Works Section and that each has an appropriate level of ability
- Identifies and arranges training as required Quality
- Sets targets and KPI's in line with Project objectives and monitors performance
- Ensures site audits are undertaken and takes appropriate action on the findings
- Appraises improvement options and leads / instigates actions as appropriate
- Implements systems and processes to manage the quality of the constructive works
- Involved in working groups focused on Improvement Areas
- Overall ownership of Handover Documentation for Section Productivity
- Sets targets and KPI's in line with key outputs and monitors performance, reporting Section Progress
- Carry out constructive analysis of fully resourced programme
- Manages sub-contractor performance based on KPI's
- Ensures production of operational target programmes to reflect overall construction programme
- Chairs prescribed Short Interval Control section meetings to review performance on site Commercial
- Sets targets and KPI's in line with budget forecast
- Attends and provides reports for weekly project meetings and identifies improvement areas and allocates / implements appropriate actions to team members
- Involved in the procurement of subcontractors and advises on commercial aspects / preferred attendances
- Produces the risk schedule for section, reviews and updates
- Prepares a cost plan and manages cost value
Able to clearly communicate the requirements of a safe system of work to ensure that these are followed accurately. Suggests and implements improvements to systems and capable of stopping operations when necessary. - Capable of taking ownership of tasks and communicating outcomes with clarity; experienced at encouraging direct reports to do the same and managing a team to ensure tasks are carried out effectively and key messages cascaded
- Strong work ethic with flexibility to work unsociable hours/nights as required by the programme
- Able to work on own initiative and seek out opportunities in line with level of responsibility
- Holds a current driving license and CSCS Card.
- SMSTS qualified.
- Excellent team player and leader, able to work competently and independently without supervision
- Able and willing to make decisions following consideration of options based on best available information; track record of solution orientated approach to resolve issues
- Strong communication skills with good interpersonal and influencing skills
- Good report writing skills
- Proficient IT skills

- Clear understanding and experience of the requirements for handover and self-certification of the works, including management experience of the same Productivity
- Able to analyse and offer improvement on a fully resourced stage programme in the accepted format / software
- Understands sub-contractor KPI's and has experience of using them to manage performance
- Able to dynamically shift programme and adapt to circumstances on site whilst maintaining focus on targets
- Experience in the management of pavement reconstruction and surfacing operations, including phasing and contingency planning
- Experienced in the management of varied infrastructure works, together with testing and handover Commercial
- Used to setting targets in line with budget
- Able to produce a realistic financial forecast and track progress against programme.
- Identifies elements for cost recovery from others and guides team members in maintaining project records
- Working knowledge of the NEC and other relevant forms of contract The following qualities/experience are desirable:
- Strong leadership and management skills, with experience of managing a multi-disciplined team
- Interest in pursuing a formal qualification (e.g. ICE)
- Wide ranging independent judgement evident
