Solicitors - Fitness to Practise

Due to career progression and parental leave, we are pleased to be able to offer both permanent and temporary Solicitor roles within the Fitness to Practise department of the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). In this role you will be a part of the team that ensures that the right people work with some of the most vulnerable in society in the areas of social work, social care and children and young people services. Your work will include investigating a wide variety of concerns raised about social service workers, providing legal advice on the course of action the SSSC should take and presenting cases at panel hearings. We protect the public by registering people working in social work, social care and children and young people services, setting standards for their practice, conduct, training and education and by supporting their professional development. Where people fall below the standards of practice and conduct, we can investigate and take action.

All staff are required to attend the office at times for meetings, training and staff events. New members of the team are asked to be in the office more often (usually two days per week) for the first six to eight weeks. We have a proven track record in growing legal talent, with many senior members of management having started as Solicitors at the SSSC.
