Position

An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist, to join the Microbiology Department, University Hospital Crosshouse.

What you will do:

The post is fully rotational through each of our laboratories (CL3, Blood Cultures, General bench, Enteric, Mycology, Urines, Serology/Virology and Molecular) and you will receive thorough training and gain experience in a wide range of techniques. Active participation in CPD and opportunities for further study are both supported and encouraged.

After a period of familiarisation, the post-holder will be required to work within the departments seven day service and the out of hours service.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:

You should be an enthusiastic and motivated individual, with an IBMS accredited Honours Degree and IBMS Specialist Diploma in Medical Microbiology or provide evidence of experience working at specialist level.

Consideration will also be given to candidates who possess an IBMS accredited Honours degree in Biomedical Science or a newly qualified Biomedical Scientist (under Annex 21) who would receive full specialised training and be expected to complete the IBMS registration portfolio and/or the Specialist Diploma in Medical Microbiology.

Hours:

Hours: 37hrs on average per week working a contractual shift system and on-call service covering the 24hour period 7 days per week. 

Participation in the Public Holiday rosters is required.

Driving Licence/Car Ownership:

Car licence/Car ownership is essential to this role.
