Specialist Biomedical Scientist Band 6/ Trainee (Annex 21paragraph (iii)) Biomedical Scientist

This is an opportunity for a experienced, HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to work in a busy department which provides a full range of clinical and diagnostic services to NHS Tayside. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work in the Bacteriology section of the Medical Microbiology Laboratory at Ninewells Hospital, who undertake 300,000 investigations per annum.

Applicants must have HCPC registration and have completed/working towards/willing to work towards an IBMS specialist portfolio in an appropriate subject or an equivalent qualification recognized by the IBMS. Candidates must be  flexible and be able to work as part of a team. Saturdays are worked as part of the normal roster. On attaining appropriate competences you will also join the roster for the Out of Hours sessions which include Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, backshifts and on-call.

The Department is approved by the Institute of Biomedical Science and NHS Education Scotland as a training laboratory. The department has UKAS accreditation to ISO 15189 standards.

Hours of work are: 37 per week

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
