Specialist Clinical Pharmacist for Women, Children and Families

Paediatric Formulary 

Band 8a 



NHS Taysides Women, Children and Families Team is thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Pharmacist to spearhead the development of our new local Paediatric Formulary. This role will work across clinical boundaries to create, implement, and maintain the highly anticipated NHS Tayside Paediatric Formulary. Beyond the developmental aspect, this position also encompasses a clinical component to bolster the formulary's growth and advance practice in the field. 


About the Role: 

We are seeking a pharmacist to join our friendly and supportive team. As part of our team, you will be part of a passionate group dedicated to delivering safe, effective, and person-centred care of the highest quality to our patients. This role offers a unique chance to collaborate closely with our exceptional Paediatric and Neonatal multidisciplinary team (MDT), utilizing your prescribing skills in both inpatient and outpatient settings. 


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the NHS Tayside Paediatric Formulary. 
  • Work closely with the Paediatric and Neonatal MDT to support the development and integration of the formulary. 
  • Use your prescribing skills in clinical settings to enhance the formularys efficacy and relevance. 
  • Collaborate with the Adult Tayside Area Formulary (TAF) team, primary care, and community pharmacy colleagues. 
  • Contribute to the professional practice development in line with the Advanced Practice and/or Consultant level framework. 


Support and Development: 

The successful candidate will receive robust support from the Women, Children and Families team and be line managed by the Lead WCF Pharmacist. There will be close collaboration with the team responsible for the Tayside Adult Area Formulary, which has a 30-year history of ensuring safe, cost-effective use of medicines for adults. This is an exciting opportunity to create a similar legacy for paediatric patients. You will be supported to develop your practice with an agreed job plan and time scheduled to work across all four pillars of advanced practice. 


Qualification and skills: 

  • Ability to work as part of a team with excellent collaborative skills. 
  • Registered Independent Prescriber or working towards the qualification. 
  • Postgraduate Diploma / MSc in a relevant area or equivalent experience.

Hours of work are:  37 Hours worked over a 7 day week. Part time and flexible working requests will be considered.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
