Full Job Description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this position is Monday Friday, 0900-1700hrs.

We are looking for a full time, permanent Band 6 Community Specialist Mental Health Nurse, to join our Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) Team in Renfrewshire. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists and allied health professionals to assess and provide interventions and treatment to children and young people in Renfrewshire experiencing moderate to severe mental health and neurodevelopmental difficulties. This also includes those whose vulnerability and mental health is impacting negatively on most areas of their life.

You will be expected to carry out all relevant forms of care in partnership with patients, families/carers and other service providers. A systemic approach is necessary, which involves offering interventions which take account of the young person and significant others, such as family members, other service providers and education.

You must have:

  • First Level Registered Mental Nurse (RMN/RNLD) with NMC Registration; relevant post registration experience of working with children and or young people (and their families/carers) with a range of mental health/ learning disability and neuro-developmental difficulties; and an ability to work independently using own initiative and without direct supervision.
  • You must be able to demonstrate excellent communication and team working skills and demonstrates a positive attitude towards children and young people. An understanding of children and young peoples mental health and developmental needs is essential.
  • You must demonstrate an understanding of family, community, and social systems.
  • You should have the ability to function competently as a member of the multi-disciplinary and multi-agency team and have knowledge of factors which impact on mental health and emotional well-being.
  • You must be able to conceptualise vulnerability, including risk factors and intervene to build resilience.
  • It is essential to demonstrate an ability/willingness to work towards achieving the competencies identified in Essential CAMHS and have a commitment to personal and professional development.
  • You should have evidence of organisational skills and experience of multi-disciplinary working.
