Full Job Description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

This is a fixed term position of 3 years.

Applications are invited for this new and innovative post in General Adult Psychiatry. This is an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic, committed, talented and experienced International Psychiatrists or current Specialty Grade doctors to gain experience towards achieving specialist Consultant registration via the CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route in General Adult Psychiatry. Our 3 year programme is specially designed to provide International Psychiatrists/local doctors with all the necessary support including visa sponsorship, relocation support and bespoke mentoring and experience to suit individual portfolio needs to achieve CESR in General Adult Psychiatry.

The successful candidates will be supported to work towards qualifying as a trained Consultant via the CESR route. Sessional time will be allocated for this and support provided from a dedicated CESR tutor. The CESR (portfolio) programme is a route to work towards gaining entry on to the Specialist Register. It is a competency-based programme that enables you to provide a portfolio of evidence of training, qualifications and experience, meeting the requirements of the General Adult Psychiatry CCT curriculum. Successful completion of the CESR process results in entry onto the Specialist Register which is a mandatory requirement to work as a substantive Consultant in the NHS. To be eligible for the programme, you must have at least 4 years experience of working in Psychiatry with relevant post graduate qualifications.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
