Specialty Doctor - Research
22 hours per week
£58,198 - £90,688 per annum pro rata
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialty Doctor to work in the Research Development and Innovation Division of NHS Highland, within the NHS Highland Clinical Research Facility (CRF) based in UHI House on the Raigmore Hospital Campus in Inverness. Alongside other clinical colleagues fulfilling this role, and working in a fully integrated way with the Clinical Research Nurse, Trials Assistant team, data management and pharmacy teams in the CRF, and with the Governance, Finance, Innovation and Quality teams in the RDI Division more widely, the post will require a forward thinking, RDI interested individual who will seek to support in driving forward the Division in its strategic journey.
The main role of the post is to support the delivery of clinical trials both commercial and academic to ensure patient safety through protocol and regulatory compliance, to act as a sub- principal investigator to support consultant colleagues across many clinical specialisms, and to sometimes act as a PI on studies which will accept a non-specialist as PI. There will be a requirement for a significant amount of training especially in relation to the scientific background of studies and in the use of new equipment, assessment processes and other study specific protocol activities. Additionally, there may be a requirement to work on other projects which may include service design, redesign and evaluation and product assessment through the innovation pathway. There is an expectation that the individual employed will aim to keep up to date with scientific advances in areas specific to the work of the Division.
It may be possible for this post to be filled by more than one individual if there are sufficient individuals RDI would like to discuss the possibility of one to three individuals sharing the post if this would encourage interested people to apply.
The post does not require a staff management role, but patient management and close working across all teams within RDI is required. Initially this will be a fixed terms (3 year) post.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
