Full Job Description

Job Title: 1 year fixed term 10 sessions- Specialty doctor in Old Age Psychiatry, Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

All applicants must possess full GMC registration, a licence to practice, with at least 4 Years full time Post Graduate Training, two of which must have been in relevant specialties or you will demonstrate and evidence equivalent experience and competencies. For Speciality doctor posts, there is also an expectation that
candidates have completed Day 1 and Day 2 of Section 22 Training prior to taking up the post. For those interested, opportunities for CESR is encouraged and is supported by GG&C Board.

Applications are sought for enthusiastic candidates with experience in Old Age Psychiatry for this 1 year Speciality doctor fixed term post which will cover the incumbents maternity leave.  This is a full-time post (10 sessions 9 Clinical Sessions and 1 Session Supporting Professional Development). There is no on-call commitment. It is a community post based at Elderpark Resource Centre working in an Older Adult Community Mental Health Team. The successful candidate will be part of a team providing care to the over 65 population of South-West Glasgow. This is a population of approximately 17,000 patients.

The Community Mental Health team is based at Elderpark Resource Centre in South Glasgow. There are two full-time Older Adult Consultant psychiatrists and a multidisciplinary community mental health team working out of Elderpark Resource Centre. Clinics are held here including nurse led memory clinic assessment. The multidisciplinary team which includes a Nurse Team Lead, Community Mental Health nursing staff, Clinical Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Healthcare Support Workers and Post-diagnostic Support Workers for dementia. There is a specialist Care Home Liaison nursing team that is part of a wider Glasgow City Care Home Liaison team and links into this post. Nursing staff provide a nurse led memory clinic where comprehensive memory assessment is completed prior to review at the outpatient clinic. There is a physical health clinic which is mainly run by nursing and pharmacy staff.

The successful candidate will be based in the community and work as part of the Older Adult Community Mental Health Team, offering outpatient and domiciliary assessment of older people with mental health problems. The candidate must be able to work in a collaborative way with other professionals and other agencies. The post is full-time but consideration will be given to applicants wishing to work less than full time or on a job share basis.
