Full Job Description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included. 

A substantive Speciality Doctor post in Skin Cancer is currently available within the Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. This role has been successfully undertaken on a locum basis for the past year. The Plastic Surgery Unit consists of 23 consultants and 1 Locum SAS doctor. This role involves combined working between both the Plastic Surgery Department and the Dermatology department. The role will involve independent and joint skin cancer clinics and skin cancer operating lists.
Candidates should have full registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council (GMC) and have completed at least four years full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a less than full-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a speciality training programme or speciality registrar locum appointment for training (LAT); or shall have equivalent training, experience or competencies, either in the UK or overseas. Candidates should have experience in the management of benign and malignant skin lesions and extensive experience in Outpatient Local Anaesthetic (OPLA) skin lesion excision and reconstruction.
Desirable candidates would display a willingness to train junior Plastic Surgery and Dermatology trainees. The successful candidate would have a clearly defined Monday-Friday core hours job plan with fixed sessions between Plastic Surgery and Dermatology.
