Full Job Description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included. 

This is a part-time post of 14.9 hours per week, with a shift pattern of Monday to Sunday.

Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Speech and Language Therapy Adult team in GG+C to provide a Speech and Language Therapy service to the Regional Major Trauma Unit based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The post is part time (15 hours), at Band 6.

The West of Scotland Major Trauma Network is a collaboration of 6 NHS Boards (Ayrshire and Arran; Dumfries and Galloway; Forth Valley; Lanarkshire; Greater Glasgow and Clyde; Highland (Argyll and Bute CHP) and the Scottish Ambulance Service.

The network will provide all aspects of trauma care from the point of injury to rehabilitation. The Major Trauma Centre located in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) in Glasgow is at the heart of the regional network. This post provides the opportunity to develop the Speech and language Therapy role both within the unit and working nationally with other Scottish Centres.

You will gain experience in managing patients with complex swallowing and communication difficulties across critical care, acute trauma and the specialist rehab unit.  In service training and joint working/treatment planning with a range of AHPs will form part of this role.

As a relatively new service, MT is committed to demonstrating outcomes and contribution to service evaluation via quality improvement and clinical governance is essential to this job.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone wishing to increase their skills in MDT working, understanding complex conditions and providing early education, support and liaison to patients and their relatives.

You may be asked to work in other areas of the service as required. The post is 5 days over 6 with a rota for weekend working.

The Adult Acute Services Division is committed to offering all staff the opportunity to develop clinical skills with a varied caseload, and also offer appraisal, supervision and opportunities for Continuing Professional Development. It is essential you have a Degree in Speech and Language Therapy with current HCPC registration.
