NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

In order to apply to for this position you must have a live pin with the NMC UK.

The shift pattern for this position is rotational, days and nights.

Clyde Sector has Band 5 registered nurse vacancies in Critical Care at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Critical Care at the Royal Alexandra Hospital incorporates a new purpose build Intensive Care Unit (2019) and one of the busiest High Dependency Units in Scotland located adjacent to each other to create a combined critical care area. This is an exciting opportunity for Registered Nurses to work in our dynamic and fast paced Critical Care area.  Our critical care multidisciplinary teams care for both emergency and elective patients across a variety of medical and surgical specialities. We work in partnership to provide a high level of specialist care pathways and closer nursing observations for critically ill patients.  Successful candidates will work in a busy and challenging environment to ensure a high standard of person centred care is delivered to critically ill patients with one or more organ failure requiring organ support, specialist care and closer nursing observations.  You will be part of a team delivering care from admission to discharge from critical care and as patients needs differ, you will be required to tailor your approach to a broad range of individuals and circumstances to meet the patients needs.

We are looking for caring, compassionate and motivated registered nurses to join our team.

Whilst critical care experience is desirable, we are also seeking candidates with:

  • acute nursing experience
  • good communication skills
  • and the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

As a service we will support you to continuously develop.  With support of our Practice Educators you will benefit from access to the right development and support through a strong educational and quality improvement ethos.

Successful candidates will be based in the High Dependency Unit, with the opportunity to rotate to the other area for professional development and educational opportunities.Informal visits to the units prior to interview are welcome and can be arranged in advance by telephoning the above contacts.

This post requires PVG Scheme membership.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.

Candidates should provide original and authentic responses to all questions within the application form. The use of artificial intelligence (AI), automated tools, or other third-party assistance to generate, draft, or significantly modify responses is strongly discouraged. By submitting your application, you confirm that all answers are your own work, reflect your personal knowledge, skills and experience, and have not been solely produced or altered by AI or similar technologies.

Failure to comply with this requirement may result in your application being withdrawn from the application process.
