Full Job Description

We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

You must have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post or Registered Operating Department Practitioner with HCPC.

The shift pattern for this position is Monday Friday, (2x 8:00-17:30 and 2x 8:00-18:00).

The Day Surgery Unit (DSU) at the New Victoria Hospital are looking for a scrub practitioners to join the team. You are required to be a First Level Registered Nurse or Registered Operating Department Practitioner. Experience in the perioperative environment is desirable. Our DSU consists of 8 theatres, a Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU), a treatment room and a 23 hour stay ward.

The theatre sessions consist of a variety of specialties including; Orthopaedics, General, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Maxilla Facial, Gynaecology and a Pain Service.

Day Surgery is a fast paced environment and collaborative working is requisite as the successful candidate may require to work in multiple areas during their shift.

The unit is friendly and promotes ongoing personal and professional development. The department is fully committed to increasing capacity which will require the successful applicant to care for patients with increasingly complex needs in the future; in line with the British Association of Days Surgery (BADS)

The ability to work on your own initiative but also as part of an integrated team is required. You are required to demonstrate flexibility in the department as this post requires the successful candidate to become Dual Trained and skilled in at least 2 areas of the unit e.g Scrub/Anaesthetics.

Furthermore, you will be expected where necessary to engage in multi-site working within South Sector NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde in order to achieve the needs of the service.

You should therefore note candidates who are unable to provide confirmation of current or anticipated registration, in line with projected start date for this post, will not be shortlisted for interview.
