Full Job Description

Pre-Operative Assessment is looking to recruit a Band 5 Staff Nurse to our busy clinic. You would be joining a team of eight Staff Nurses and three Health Care Support Workers. Clinic runs Mon-Fri with patients attending from 0830-1630hrs.

In conjunction with Senior Charge Nurse, you would be responsible for managing and co-ordinating the Pre-operative Assessment service for elective surgeries to ensure the patients arrive physically, psychologically and socially prepared for surgery.

Your role would involve clinical nursing knowledge and skills in all aspects of Pre-Operative Assessment, including clinical assessment, venepuncture and heart and lung auscultation. You would be expected to access and complete relevant patient documentation, some of which is on electronic systems.

As a member of the multidisciplinary team, you would be expected to co-ordinate the input of medical, nursing and administrative staff and liaise with colleagues to ensure the smooth transition of patients through surgery, hospitalisation and discharge.

Using your specialist knowledge and skills, you would give support and advice to less experienced staff and undertake mentoring of nursing students on placement and other staff and students who may be visiting the department to support their training and development.

Evidence of Learning and Development, Turas and Mandatory Training would be essential. A good working knowledge of clinics would be advantageous although not essential, as full training will be given.

You will also work with the team to ensure a high standard of cleanliness throughout the hospital, promoting good standards of hygiene and, in conjunction with the Control of Infection team, ensures infection rates are minimised.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
