Full Job Description

TAQA has a vacancy for a Senior Structural Engineer to work with the TAQA Project Management team to plan the removal of the NNS Assets including technical assurance and interface with Allseas. This position is open to both staff and contractors. If applying via an agency, this will be a contract position, and any internal contractor who applies and is successful will remain with their current contracting company.   • Decommissioning EPRD contracts require the nominated contractor to carry out all engineering and preparation activities. The main objectives of the role are to:
  • Ensure all EPRD scopes are carried out safely with technically robust engineering and procedures.
  • Recognise the contractual and commercial implications of project scope to mitigate the risk of variations., Provide technical advice and approval on the removal contractor's removal methodologies.
  • Review and provide structural assurance on onshore dismantling methodologies.
  • Understand the platform's structural arrangement and condition to provide advice and ensure alignment with the EPRD contractor. Attend Late Life Integrity Management Reviews where required.
  • Undertake all work in accordance with quality assurance system, with due regard to Health, Safety, Security and Environmental.
  • Develop the EPRD project technical assurance scheme including:
  • The identification and specification of any independent analysis or calculations required to verify the EPRD contractor's work.
  • Manage the 3rd party technical review of the EPRD contractors documents including coordination & management of ICP, IVB & material specialist technical reviews.
  • Undertake role of Originator, and/or Checker, of technical documentation and project deliverables, including calculations, reports, specifications, drawings and workpacks, ensuring compliance with structural specifications as well as applicable code requirements and national / international standards.
  • Technically review the EPRD contractors engineering deliverables and workpacks on behalf of TAQA.
  • Proactive management of interfaces with the EPRD contractor, including management of technical queries.
  • Input to the Risk Register including active management of assigned risks and identification of mitigations.
  • Develop a strong working relationship with the removal contractor's engineering teams through attendance at project meetings, regular technical meetings, design reviews, technical queries, HAZIDs and HIRAs.
  • Provide technical advice to the Project Manager and/or Project Lead.
  • Regular engagement and alignment with the Structural Technical Authority and Structural Engineering team.
  • Travel offshore during preparation and removal activities.

    Degree or equivalent qualification in relevant engineering discipline or significant experience in a relevant role.
  • Current Offshore Medical and Survival Certificate
  • Preferred
  • Chartered Engineer status with an appropriate Engineering Council registered institution., Experience within the structural engineering discipline and sound knowledge of structural engineering principles.
  • Experience in brownfield engineering design, installation and removal.
  • In-depth knowledge of AISC American Design Code, and relevant British Standards and Eurocodes.
  • Knowledge of engineering practices, codes and standards and their application to modifications and construction activities.
  • Good understanding of key legislation and regulatory framework applicable to UKCS offshore regime with understanding of major accident hazards, performance standards, assurance and verification activities.
  • Knowledge of hazard identification and risk assessment techniques.
  • Familiarity with structural integrity management philosophies and practices.
  • Knowledge of lifting operations.
  • Contractual awareness
  • Understanding of management of change and change control processes.
  • Comply with relevant discipline specific procedures and provide feedback for continuous improvement.

  • Experience in working for a Design Contractor
  • Experience with decommissioning activities or projects
  • Familiarity with codes of practice relevant to offshore installation removal, including marine specific codes., Ability to be part of a team, work in small groups and independently.

  • Enthusiastic, conscientious, flexible and willingness to learn.
  • Good level of competence in Microsoft Office packages plus discipline IT tools including STAAD Pro., HSSEQ team

    Compressed Working Week (CWW)
  • TAQA offers onshore employees and contractors a Compressed Working Week (CWW) in order to help achieve a healthy work-life balance. The CWW is an arrangement where employees and contractors work a standard two-week work period (10 days) over a compressed period of 9 working days i.e. employees contracted to work 37.5 hours per week will work 75 hours over 9 days (instead of 10 days). The 10th day in the second week of the CWW period is known as 'Flex Friday', a non-working day.
