Full Job Description

As a Subsea Test Centre Technician, you will be an integral part of our subsea and hydrodynamic testing facilities. This role supports both subsea and wave tank test operations, providing technical assistance in the setup, calibration, and maintenance of testing equipment, including subsea systems and wave tank setups. Responsibilities also include operating 3D scanning equipment for precise measurements, setting up and performing tests, and assisting in evaluations. This position offers a comprehensive hands-on experience, enhancing your skills in equipment calibration, hydrodynamic and subsea testing methodologies, data collection, analysis and quality assurance, while working alongside experienced technical and engineering personnel to advance the testing capabilities of the facility. Within some departments we operate a shift system, a shift allowance is paid while working on back and night shift which increases the standard hourly rate by time +1/6 and time + 1/3. There is also the opportunity to work overtime during busy periods. Main Duties Safety:

  • Support and promote a proactive safety culture by adhering to safety standards and participating in safety audits and talks.
  • Assist in creating risk assessments, work instructions, and test documentation to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry certifications, conducting pre-use checks and maintaining housekeeping standards.
  • Promote the 'Safety Focus' culture within the team by contributing to the SIFRI system and other safety-focused initiatives.
  • Technical Support:
  • Subsea and Wave Tank Testing: Assist STC personnel and hydrodynamic personnel in the setup, operation, troubleshooting, and reporting of subsea and wave tank test equipment and processes.
  • Calibration and Maintenance: Aid in the calibration, servicing, and maintenance of testing equipment to ensure operational accuracy and equipment uptime.
  • 3D Scanning: Operate 3D scanners to capture accurate measurements and geometric data, ensuring precision in setups and post-test evaluations.
  • Test Installation Support: Assist in the installation of new subsea and wave tank testing equipment under senior personnels guidance, ensuring safety and compliance.
  • Data Collection and Basic Analysis: Provide technical assistance during test operations by collecting and performing basic analyses on test data, contributing to accurate reporting and troubleshooting.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Support calibration schedules for STC and wave tank testing equipment, arrange routine maintenance, and ensure timely repairs to avoid disruptions.
  • Collaborate with software and hardware teams to specify and implement control system upgrades and data analysis software improvements.
  • Quality:
  • Testing Standards Compliance: Ensure that all tests are conducted as per Inspection Test Plans (ITP), procedures, drawings, customer specifications, and internal business processes.
  • Quality Checks and Record Maintenance: Conduct quality checks on samples, equipment setup and results before, during, and after tests to verify outcomes against standards and maintain comprehensive records of test procedures, equipment setups, and test data.
  • Documentation Consistency: Ensure all documentation aligns with company standards, contributing to consistent and high-quality reporting and compliance.
  • Process and Efficiency Improvement: Participate in identifying process improvements and opportunities to enhance equipment efficiency and testing facility performance.
  • R&D and Innovation Support: Collaborate with engineers on R&D initiatives exploring new subsea technologies, testing methods, and equipment, and assist in implementing energy-efficient solutions.
  • Collaboration & Learning:
  • Work closely with STC and wave tank personnel, technicians, and cross-functional teams to gain a solid understanding of subsea and wave tank systems, testing methodologies, and equipment management.
  • Engage in collaborative projects with Quality, Proposals, Production, and R&D teams to integrate learnings and improvements across testing operations.
  • Attend relevant training sessions, technical workshops, and seminars to further develop skills in testing methodologies, 3D scanning, hydrodynamic testing, and subsea engineering.
  • Other Responsibilities
  • Availability to work backshifts and nightshifts as required.
  • Participate in special projects and ad hoc duties as assigned, contributing to the dynamic needs of the test facility.

    Technical, or engineering qualification (minimum HND, or equivalent to SCQF level 8/ NVQ level 4) in a related technical field such as mechanical, electrical, or subsea engineering. Alternative relevant scientific, testing or other qualifications shall be considered., A basic understanding of engineering principles, hydrodynamics, mechanical systems, and safety regulations.
  • Familiarity with basic tools, subsea test equipment, 3D scanning technologies, and experience with calibration and troubleshooting procedures is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with subsea or hydrodynamic testing environments, and experience with test setups, quality checks, and calibration processes/procedures.
