Full Job Description

To provide practical, professional, and empathetic support to a young adult with high-functioning autism (ASD). The role includes assisting with day-to-day living skills, promoting independence, and fostering a supportive and respectful environment., Daily Living Support:

Assist with budgeting and paying bills.

Support with shopping, meal planning, and preparing nutritious meals.

Help with washing, drying, and organising clothes.

Assist with cleaning and tidying the living space.

Support with light gardening chores, as required.

Building a Supportive Environment:

Create a predictable routine to reduce anxiety (e.g., schedules, lists, and reminders).

Adapt to sensory sensitivities (e.g., noise, light, textures) to ensure comfort.

Provide a sensory-friendly space when needed to decompress.

Skill Development:

Encourage independence and development at the individual's own learning pace.

Facilitate participation in activities that build skills and social connections.

Assist with Healthcare and Mental Health:

Ensure appointments (medical, dental, etc.) are diarised and attended.

Social and Community Integration:

Foster and encourage social interactions and inclusion in community activities.

Support existing friendships and relationships with caregivers or family.

Respect and Inclusion:

Treat the individual with respect, ensuring involvement in decision-making processes.

Advocate for services, accommodations, and policies that support their well-being.

Ability to focus on the persons strengths and talents

Previous experience working with individuals with ASD is essential.

Patience, empathy, and an understanding of autism's unique challenges.

Ability to adapt to the individual's communication style and sensory needs.

Confident in promoting independence while being supportive.

Strong skills in organisation, time management, and clear communication.

Reliable, professional, and resourceful.

Additional Considerations:

Non-smoker preferred.

Willingness to pursue ongoing learning about autism.

Use of visual tools (schedules, diaries) to support daily routines.

Mindfulness of verbal and non-verbal communication cues.
