St Thomas of Aquin’s Roman Catholic High School is a learning community which provides a safe, supportive and enjoyable environment where staff, parents and pupils are inspired and motivated to work hard for one another to ensure the full potential of all pupils are fulfilled. The school improvement plan focusses on the areas of improvement in children and young people’s attainment/achievement, particularly in literacy and numeracy; closing the attainment gap between the most and least disadvantaged children and young people; improvement in children and young people’s health and wellbeing; and improvement in employability skills and sustained, positive school leaver destinations for all young people. A major focus of the school’s improvement plan is to continue to work towards ensuring there is no pattern between lower attainment and children living in poverty.

Catholic Schools: It is not necessary to be of the Catholic faith to apply for this role. However, since this is a Roman Catholic school, appointees will require to be approved with regard to religious belief and character by the Church. The successful candidate must therefore contact the Edinburgh Diocesan Staffing Adviser to verify or establish their status with regard to Church Approval. The candidate should go to the website: www.sces.org.uk/approval and fill in the relevant forms online.

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
