We are seeking to appoint a Primary 4 Teacher with vision and passion for teaching and learning. This post represents an excellent opportunity to be innovative in developing our culture of sharing and learning across the cluster. 

At Langholm and Canonbie Schools Cluster we are not only committed to providing the very best educational experiences and opportunities but also to develop our young people as leaders and responsible citizens who will make a huge difference to the school community and beyond. We work in partnership with our parents and carers, members of the local community, other partners in learning and most importantly, our children and young people.  At Langholm Academy campus we have 260 pupils in our secondary, 170 in our primary and 25 in our nursery. At Canonbie primary we have 50 pupils within the primary, and 16 in our nursery. The schools are managed by one Headteacher, with an extended team of Depute Headteachers and Principal Teachers. 

Our core purpose is to ensure that every child and young person reaches their full potential and is well prepared to succeed in learning, life and work in the 21st century. We remain committed to closing the poverty related equity gap. Our vision is to be a cluster of schools where everyone is listened to, supported and encouraged to aim high and do their best; where everyone takes responsibility for learning and every experience is a learning opportunity. 

Being a cluster of schools, we are able to shape and influence the experiences of all our cluster primaries, helping us to build on our academic reputation. We are an inclusive cluster of schools, who strive to ensure we offer a flexible curriculum which appeals to many parents and pupils. Our schools are busy, dynamic environments with a commitment to getting the best for every child but understanding our pupils as individuals. We currently have 35 teaching staff and 10 support staff, and enjoy strong relationships with our Parent Councils and wider community partners including Buccleuch Estates, Langholm Initiative, Wild Eskdale and Outpost Arts. Our pupils and families are supported by a dedicated and highly skilled staff who play an important role in the development of our culture and ethos of getting the best for every child.  

We are seeking to appoint a temporary Teacher of Primary 4 (1FTE) to cover a maternity position for a period of up to one year. This post forms part of Langholm and Canonbie Schools Cluster to deliver BGE as appropriate to meet the needs of our learners.  

 

Applicants for teaching posts must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS), Clerwood House, 96 Clermiston Road, Edinburgh, EH12 6UT in the appropriate sector.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.  From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Please note – Pay arrangements for those starting after 1st day of school session 

 

In accordance with Teachers Conditions of Service (SNCT – appendix 2.19), Teachers who commence their employment or change their payscale with Dumfries and Galloway Council after the first day of the school session will have their salary for the remainder of the school salary year recalculated to reflect how teachers accrue pay and leave. In these circumstances, a calculation will be carried out upon commencement of employment and pay and leave will be adjusted.  This may have a temporary detriment to your salary however this will balance out over the course of the session.

This is a temporary post for a period of up to 12 months to cover a maternity leave.

 

This position may be suitable for a Secondment, Line Management approval should be sought before applying for the position.
