QEUH Adult theatre emergency theatres are fast paced theatre specialtys which continually change. They operate 27/7 and perform emergency surgery in all specialities including, laparoscopic, renal transplant, ENT, Gynaecology, vascular and many more. As the QEUH is the West of Scotland Major Trauma Centre emergency theatres are also involved in this service. Emergency theatres require strong leadership and specialist knowledge to facilitate and manage the complex procedures carried out at the QEUH.

Senior cover would have the skills to coordinate all emergencies via our Emergency Hub by effective communication with the MDT to ensure efficiency and cost effective use of resources without compromising care. There is a need for this post to ensure that the theatres run efficiently and effectively with a focus on patient care, governance and safety.

The emergency CN/CODP would:

  • Provide effective leadership and specialist knowledge to ensure high quality care is delivered and that nursing and service developments are taken forward to ensure we continue to provide excellent standards of care.
  • Support junior staff and students and ensure that there was ongoing training including the renal competencies to ensure those standards are maintained and the hospitals renal license remains.
  • Deputise for the SCNs in their absence and take responsibility for some of the attendance management relating to the team
  • Be required to demonstrate flexibility by working within a service which runs over a seven day week and includes night duty.
  • Be expected where necessary to engage in multi-site working within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde in order to achieve the needs of the service.

As part of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clydes pre-employment checking for all appointed candidates, evidence of current NMC/HCPC registration will be required prior to start date.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.

Candidates should provide original and authentic responses to all questions within the application form. The use of artificial intelligence (AI), automated tools, or other third-party assistance to generate, draft, or significantly modify responses is strongly discouraged. By submitting your application, you confirm that all answers are your own work, reflect your personal knowledge, skills and experience, and have not been solely produced or altered by AI or similar technologies.

Failure to comply with this requirement may result in your application being withdrawn from the application process.
