Grade UE08: £48,350 to £59,421 Per annum

Open-ended: Permanent Contract 

Full time: 35 hours per week 


Project Services are looking for an experienced project delivery professional and leader to join our team delivering IT and business change projects with our partners across the University. This is a great opportunity to join our dynamic, friendly and supportive team at a world-leading University. 

The post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. The post has a hybrid-working pattern and the post holder is expected to work at our offices in Edinburgh on at least one day per week.    


The Opportunity:

Project Services are a specialist team delivering IT and business change projects with partners across the University. Our diverse project portfolio supports research, teaching and professional services. Our projects improve business efficiency, enhance student experience, maintain IT compliance and enable digital transformation. Our roles provide a wide variety of challenging and rewarding projects.  


As the Team and Portfolio Manager for the University Secretary’s Group and Colleges you will lead a team of project professionals with responsibility for delivering projects and programmes which directly support the University’s academic mission. Your project portfolio will support a range of key areas including: Communication and Marketing; Development and Alumni; Governance and Strategic Planning; Records Management; Student Recruitment and Admissions; Teaching; Research and Student Experience Services.   


The Team and Portfolio Manager:

·        Leads the day-to-day activities of their team ensuring the effective use of staff, technologies, and financial resources to meet programme and project requirements within one or more business area portfolios. 

·        Ensures the consistent delivery of high-quality portfolio management, programme management, project management and business analysis services for their business partners. 

·        Demonstrates professional leadership, exemplifies best practice, and delivers consistent excellence as a leader and hands-on portfolio, programme and project delivery specialist.


Your skills and attributes for success:

·        Extensive experience working as a Programme Manager and Project Manager in a professional business environment to consistently deliver successful outcomes on a range of large and complex projects.

·        In depth knowledge of project delivery best practice, methodologies and tools with the practical ability to use this knowledge to consistently deliver effective IT solutions.

·        Significant track record of working closely with IT specialists to successfully leverage IT systems and technologies to deliver business benefits. 

·        Ability to consistently obtain positive outcomes through leading, supporting and coaching professional staff and multi-disciplinary project teams.

·        Excellent leadership abilities and communication skills to establish strong relationships and positively influence, guide and challenge colleagues and project stakeholders.

·        Experience of managing staff and financial resources, with forward planning up to five years ahead, and contributing to operational and strategic plans.

·        A good understanding of the structure, technology and business requirements of the University and/or the Higher Education sector.

·        Active interest in continuing professional development combined with the vision and energy to drive change through practical application of core skills.
