About SPT

Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) is the largest of Scotland’s seven regional transport partnerships. We run the Glasgow Subway, a host of specialist bus services and are responsible for delivering better public transport for all.

The Subway has been modernised twice in its history with the previous modernisation taking place in the late 1970s.  We are currently undertaking a £288m transformational project which will result in the Subway being one of the most advanced systems in Europe.  This is your opportunity to be part of the future of Subway, helping us to deliver the first full Unattended Train Operation (UTO) system in the UK.

As work on Subway Modernisation continues at pace this year, we are seeking a Technical Engineer (Electrical) who will support the maintenance, management and improvement of the Subway’s Electrical and Security Systems.   This a fantastic opportunity to be involved in all phases of an asset and project life cycle and will include both office and site-based activities, as SPT looks to deliver sustainable and cost-effective solutions.

 

About the Role

As a member of the Engineering Team you will utilise you’re engineering and management skills in a busy and multi-disciplined operational environment. You will support the Engineer (Systems & Electrical) in the range of tasks relating to the maintenance, management, and improvement of the Subway’s Electrical and Security Systems.

You will work collaboratively with other stakeholders and departments and take responsibility for working independently on discrete scopes. You will be involved in a wide range of different activities, establishing familiarity with a variety of Subway assets, and be involved in a series of improvement and renewal projects.

 

About you

The successful candidate will have relevant educational and professional qualifications, as well as having experience of working in an operational, multi-disciplined engineering and/or maintenance environment. It is essential that you have a full understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and asset management.  Experience of working with high voltage power systems and automated equipment is desirable. 

A self-motivated individual with a drive to succeed, you will have strong communication, problem solving and numeracy skills and be confident in dealing with technical information.   You will be a highly motivated, reliable, and capable individual with excellent influencing skills, able to negotiate with others to resolve competing priorities.

Full time hours will be 35 hours per week Monday to Friday.

The nature of this role may require you to work outwith normal office hours on occasion, to support the operational requirements of the organisation.  This may include occasional nightshift working. 

You will be based at Broomloan Depot, Govan, Glasgow.
