Full Job Description

The Technical Safety lead shall be embedded within the IBRO Offshore wind H&S Compliance team and report directly to the Offshore wind H&S Compliance Manager.

The role holder shall be responsible to ensure that the development and design areas of our business implement correct H&S process and principals into our offshore wind assets at a global scale.

The role holder shall also ensure that H&S technical advice and support is delivered to commissioning and O&M projects. This may be in the form of safe by design studies, retro fits and modifications, case to operate studies and management of change process.

The role holder shall also assist shall carry out H&S technical inspection and audit to confirm the H&S process are being followed and applied in the correct way.

The Technical Safety lead shall also support the H&S Legal compliance specialist in carrying out technical due diligence audits of our suppliers and internal process and assisting with the technical aspects of Compliance and ISO standards audits.

The aim of the role is to interact with all other relevant departments to ensure technical health and safety aspects are recognised and embedded within our offshore wind business.

What you'll be doing

The Technical Safety advisor shall be responsible for the following activities:

  • Development, implementation, and management of safety process into design to ensure a safe by design approach and lessons learned are implemented.


  • Carry out due diligence inspections and audits for suppliers and contractors.


  • Support internal design risk assessment activities.


  • Audit and inspections of all H&S and Compliance process at sites to ensure adherence to H&S process.


  • Review and input into the management of change process


  • Support in the review of operational incidents, root cause analysis and review of operational restrictions that have H&S implications.


  • Identify through site engagement any construction or operational areas of current work that could be improved.


  • Investigation of incidents, observations, and failures relating to technical H&S process


  • Follow up of incidents ensuring lessons learned are captured and implemented correctly to prevent future re-occurrence.


  • Engage with industry/trade bodies, professional institutions, and work groups to further H&S knowledge and understand new process on the market.


  • Work closely with the H&S Compliance team the Electrical Safety team and the Lifting Specialist to capture areas of H&S concern and aid in planning and implementing a rectification process to ensure we are working as safe as possible.


  • Work with the Audit & Reporting team to ensure information gathered during audit and inspection is captured and processed correctly.


  • Work with the Principal Construction H&S Manager and the Principal O&M H&S Manager to provide assistance into specific workstreams. Helping where possible to achieve the highest H&S standards for their respective areas.

    Previous experience in structural, mechanical engineering or safety engineering is preferred but not essential.


  • Must be able to read design criteria and specifications and able to critically comment.


  • Basic understanding of substation equipment and/or wind turbine generators. If this does not exist, the job holder must come from a strong engineering background.


  • Understanding of offshore logistics and construction would be advantageous.


  • Able to influence at all levels from technician to management level.


  • Must have the ability to work autonomously and manage their own schedule and interfaces.


  • University degree in a relevant discipline (BSc/BEng) would be advantageous but is not essential, if this is not in place then we are willing to look at work history and past roles held.
