This is a fixed term post until December 2025.

The Technician Support Service provides technical support to Educational Services schools and other education establishments. The vacancy is in one of our high school's science departments and we are seeking to employ an experienced and qualified science technician to join our current teams in support of the school curriculum.

You must be fully qualified in a science area of expertise and preferably have gained practical laboratory experience and a knowledge of relevant health & safety and COSHH regulations.

You will be an enthusiastic and self motivated individual with an ability to work both as a team member supporting the science technician and teaching teams, and on your own as each occasion requires.

You will provide a high level, quality service in support of school(s) teaching and learning processes and fully understand and apply the key purpose and key accountabilities of the post in the course of your daily duties. These duties will include the safe preparation of materials and equipment for delivering science lessons, and the application of relevant Health & Safety measures associated with these tasks.

Your technical and Health & Safety support will be to both staff and pupils as well as students, NQTs and extracurricular clubs.

You will be working within busy departments and with a large variety of people, at times supporting other locations, so should be keen and adaptable with the ability to communicate clearly and enjoy working with others.

Although St Peter the Apostle will be the base school there may occasionally be a requirement to support at other schools

Requirements

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007 and as such membership with the PVG scheme is essential. Further details of this scheme can be found here.

Preferred applicants will be required to become members of the relevant PVG scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer being made by West Dunbartonshire Council.

Responsibilities

The employment for which you are applying is excepted from the provisions of section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders (Exceptions) Order 1975.
