This is a part time post and the salary will be pro rata to the number of hours worked.

This is a fixed term post until 4th September 2026.

Work Pattern:

EITHER:

Thursday 8.30am - 4.15pm, Friday 8.30am - 4.15pm
OR
Wednesday 2 hours handover (time to be agreed), Thursday 8.30am - 3.15pm. Friday 8.30am - 3.15pm

The Technician Support Service provides technical support to Educational Services schools and other education establishments. The vacancy is in one of our high school's technical departments and we are seeking to employ a fully qualified technical technician to join our current technician teams in support of the school curriculum.

You must be fully qualified in a technical area of expertise and have gained work experience in an engineering, woodworking or metalworking environment. You will have knowledge of machine and tool maintenance and safety procedures including an understanding of relevant health & safety regulations.

You will be an enthusiastic and self motivated individual with an ability to work both as a team member supporting the technical teaching team, and on your own as each occasion requires.

You will provide a high level quality service in support of school(s) teaching and learning processes and fully understand and apply the key purpose and key accountabilities of the post in the course of your daily duties. These duties will include the preparation of all materials for class pieces and projects, as well as routine maintenance of machinery and tools.

Requirements

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007 and as such membership with the PVG scheme is essential. Further details of this scheme can be found here.

Preferred applicants will be required to become members of the relevant PVG scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer being made by West Dunbartonshire Council.

Responsibilities

The employment for which you are applying is excepted from the provisions of section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders (Exceptions) Order 1975. Applicants are, therefore, not statutorily entitled to withhold information about convictions which for other purposes are "spent" under the provisions of the Act. In the event of employment any failure to disclose such convictions could result in dismissal or disciplinary action.
