Full Job Description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this position is Mon- Thurs 0730-1500, Friday 0730-1700.

Exciting opportunity to join the Plastic Surgery Breast Reconstruction Service as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to support the patient pathway in breast reconstruction. 

The CNS in Plastic Surgery Breast Reconstruction Service is:

  • A registered nurse who has command of a broad expert knowledge base and has a complex clinical competence,
  • Is able to make complex clinical decisions using expert clinical judgement
  • Is an essential member of an interdependent health care team.

This role is determined by the context in which s/he practices. They must: 

  • Work autonomously with the guidance of the Lead Nurse, Lead Breast Reconstruction CNS, the Plastic Surgery Consultants and within a multi-professional team to ensure a high standard of care to this defined patient group.
  • Competently perform the necessary technical/invasive/physical aspects of care for this defined patient group.
  • They will be expected to have the skills to develop the authority to refer, admit and discharge within the appropriate clinical area.

The post holder will be supported to develop in the role and extend practice though Bespoke Advanced Practice
Education at MSc level. Training will take 2-3 years dependent on previous academic and professional experience.
Applicants should have NMC UK Registration. Experience in this speciality would be beneficial.
