The McLaughlin and Harvey Trainee programme will give you the opportunity to train as a Quantity Surveyor. As a Trainee Quantity Surveyor you will undertake a degree in Quantity Surveying and develop into the role of a Quantity Surveyor who is responsible for negotiating and concluding a contract for the supply of work, goods, materials and services. During the development period the Trainee Quantity Surveyor will assist the Quantity Surveyor and carry out the following duties:

  • Assist with the procurement of Sub-Contractors
  • Assist with the preparation of Sub-Contract Orders
  • Contribute to the preparation of Monthly Valuations
  • Assist with Payment of Sub-Contractors and Cash Flow Forecasting
  • Support the Quantity Surveyor with the preparation of Costs and Budgets
  • Review and undertake site measurements
  • Assist with the preparation of internal & external monthly reports
  • Liaise with all members of the Site team, e.g. Project Manager, Site Manager, Design Manager
  • Liaise with other departments within the business e.g. Estimating & Finance, Joining our Trainee Scheme is easy! All we require is that you are over 16 years of age and have achieved the required entry requirements for the appropriate University, as detailed at the bottom of this advert., You'll spend one day a week attending university studying towards your interested degree. It's not all about study and exams though. When you're not in University you'll be putting into practice what you've learned by working with experienced colleagues on a range of high profile projects.
  • You will get responsibility from an early stage in your career and will play a key role in helping deliver projects on time and under budget. You will also have opportunities to work on our high-profile projects. Don't worry, you're not alone, you'll be supported by both a Buddy and a Mentor. What are the entry requirements? For new employees applying directly from school: Scottish Higher: BBCC or equivalent Foundation Apprenticeships We accept selected Foundation Apprenticeships, in combination with SQA Highers, for entry to our degree programmes. Your Foundation Apprenticeship will take the place of one SQA Higher qualification for our standard entry requirements and will be treated as equivalent to a B grade at Higher. Modern Apprenticeships If you have completed a Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF level 6 in a relevant discipline this would be equivalent to two Highers at B. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

    You will be enrolled onto a Graduate Apprenticeship Scheme with a local university this will be to study, BSc (Hons) Construction and the Built Environment (QS)., We offer a fully funded scheme where on completion you will gain a degree. Training will include time in relevant departments offering a broader understanding of how the business operates getting involved in interesting and challenging work. At the same time, you'll be earning a competitive salary. Recent projects include; Farnborough Airport expansion, Alexander Stadium, Birmingham and Boclair Academy, Bearsden.   • Eligibility to work and live permanently in the UK
  • Hold a full UK Driving Licence (desirable) or access to private/public transport, For applicants with prior work experience and professional qualifications, there is a possibility to be considered through the university's flexible entry system through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
