An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the existing vascular nurse specialist (VSN) team in the East of Scotland Vascular Network (ESVN). The post for a trainee vascular nurse specialist to develop generic skills in this area along with the development of a specialist interest in the palliative care of patients with advanced vascular disease. The ESVN provides tertiary vascular specialist care for a population in excess of 800,000 patients. There are currently two skilled VSNs and this post aims to widen the scope and expertise available within the network to deliver patient-centred, efficient care. We are seeking to appoint an individual to develop specialist nurse skills and work in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team to develop a specialist vascular palliative service within the vascular specialist nurse team.

The vascular service provides patient-centred, highly specialised care to patients with vascular disease across primary and secondary care. The post holder will gain experience caring for patients with advanced care needs and gain exposure to complex clinical and surgical pathways. The post entails collaboration with a number of agencies and provides excellent opportunity for development both in clinical assessment and development of a specialist interest within vascular surgical practice.

The post will provide support in the form of specialist teaching from both nursing a surgical staff and provide a unique opportunity to gain skills in audit and research to develop the evolving vascular palliative care practice.

You will work within a clinical team that values patient safety, delivery of safe, effective high quality care within a challenging surgical environment. You should be committed to provide a high standard of professional nursing care, with a proven ability to influence changes in practice. You should be able to work well within a large and diverse team and demonstrate your ongoing learning with supporting evidence.

These roles will provide further opportunities to influence and develop nursing practice within the clinical area. Applicants should have extensive experience at Band 5 level within an acute setting specifically with knowledge and expertise within the vascular speciality. You should have a proven ability to utilise effective leadership to influence change. You must demonstrate excellent communication skills and a commitment to improving standards of patients care.

You must be registered on Sub-part 1: RN1 or RNA or Sub-part 2: RN2 of the UK NMC Register.
