Would you like to join City of Edinburgh Council’s growing Active Travel Team, to help deliver the city’s ambitious programme of investment in walking, wheeling and cycling, public realm and street improvements?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Technician role to assist in the planning, delivery and monitoring of walking, wheeling and cycling projects, public realm and street improvements.

Our programme is a major component of Edinburgh’s City Mobility Plan. This aims to transform urban travel over the next decade to deliver a healthier, thriving, fairer and compact capital city, and a higher quality of life for all residents, as we transition to a zero-carbon future.

The following areas of experience / knowledge / interest are desirable:

• An interest in encouraging walking, wheeling and cycling as means of transport • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• GIS skills
• Knowledge of street design, particularly designing for walking, wheeling and cycling schemes
• Delivering or assisting in the delivery of projects
• Excellent IT skills, particularly using MS Word, Excel and the ability to learn in-house systems such as finance/requisition programmes
• Numeracy / monitoring of project outcomes
• Ability to use CAD design packages, especially Autocad, but experience with sketchup, photoshop or similar packages
• Public consultation and engagement

The team is hybrid working, with the office base being the Council’s main office at Waverley Court next to Waverley Station.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we’re bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.

To help achieve this, we’re changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

You can find out more on Our Behaviours web page Our Behaviours – The City of Edinburgh Council

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
