Trials Technician – Applied Science 

 

Our Applied Science Practice leverages a unique combination of technologies and expertise to engineer practical solutions to problems of national and international importance. We apply expertise in solid and fluid dynamics, materials science, acoustics, risk assessments and computational simulation methods to solve complex problems. We perform research, mathematical modeling, software development and design to manage risks to life safety in military platforms and installations, ships and submarines, critical infrastructure, tall buildings, public facilities, industrial and petrochemical plants and automotive and airborne vehicles. Military, government, corporate and academic clients’ value the validation of Applied Science’s software and the critical insights gained from correlating analysis with testing.  


The Role

We are currently looking for a Trials Technician to work within our Applied Science engineering and delivery team based at our Dalgety Bay office. 


·       Knowledge of structural and vibration testing on a wide variety of civil and maritime structures.  

·       Preparation and assistance in the conduct of shock, vibration or seismic tests with a mixture of field test work and laboratory-based tests. 

·       Preparation and assistance in physical testing of a range of equipment with a good understanding in one or all of the following disciplines, Structural/ Mechanical /Electrical/ Pressure Systems 

·       Set-up and operation of measurement systems, Data Acquisition (DAQ), oscilloscopes and experimental measurement instrumentation.  

·       Good practical experience and skills in the use of general workshop equipment.  

·       Fork-lift Truck operations 

·       Banks-person/ Slinging operations  

·       RIB boat operations and maintenance 

·       General workshop equipment, maintenance 

·       Sensor Calibration 

·       Understanding of electronic/electrical principals 

·       PAT testing 

·       Maintenance and operation of data acquisition equipment (transducers, cabling, signal conditioning) 

·       Calibration 

·       Data processing 

·       Roles include periods of extensive travel and some irregular working hours.  

 

Responsibilities 

·       Maintenance of a safe working environment and implementing safe working practices 

·       Ability to work independently and autonomously with minimal supervision

Requirements 

·       Driving License required for role 

·       These roles will require the ability to obtain UK Security Clearance. 

·       Candidates with experience in a laboratory environment would also be considered. 

 

Qualifications 

·       Educated to at least an HNC level in an engineering related subject and / or successfully completed an apprenticeship with the necessary experience in a relevant engineering related field.
