Full Job Description
The CPD will be focussed on the more challenging elements of transitioning from trainee clinical psychologists to autonomous professionals working in the current healthcare context. Through a process of consultation, it has been determined that the topics to be covered over a period of two years include:
- Compassionate leadership
- Workload management
- Self-compassion
- Considering marginalised identities in the workplace
- Integrating lived experience into the workplace
- Transition into the supervisor role
- Maintaining a research identity
- Maintaining professional integrity in complex systems, The CPD tutors will primarily be responsible for developing the core material for one or two topics per year, and participating in between eight and twelve online events per year as either a lead or a co-facilitator (2-4 x live webinars with up to 40 participants, 4-8 x workshop discussions with up to 10 participants). Additional duties include engaging with quality assurance processes (including induction training) to ensure the quality of learner experience, contributing to the steering group overseeing the program, and working with co-tutors to maintain coherence., To prepare the learning materials for one or two topics per year within the CPD programme:
- Ensuring the consideration of diverse skillsets in clinical psychology and recognising likely individual differences and protected characteristics in the diversity of learners.
- Utilising knowledge of approaches to learning to ensure that two-hour webinars have an appropriate balance of didactic delivery and reflective learner engagement.
- Preparing slide decks using BPS materials for delivery within two-hour webinars, along with accompanying materials to support reflective learner engagement in session.
- Preparing materials to support reflective learner engagement during discussion-based sessions subsequent to the webinar delivery
- Support fellow tutors to understand the expectations of their contribution to the facilitation of reflective learner elements within each webinar To deliver a learning experience at between six and twelve events per year (dependent upon recruitment of other programme facilitators) within a 12-month period, including:
- To lead one or two webinars related to the topics for which materials have been prepared, delivering the core presentation elements and directing learners and co-tutors in regard to reflective activities as appropriate.
- To attend two or three webinars and perform duties as a co-tutor, supporting learner engagement as directed by the lead tutor for the topic
- To attend and facilitate either four or eight online reflective workshops with a subset of learners in their discussion of the most recent CPD topic. To report to the DCP Membership Lead, BPS Learn, and the project steering group
- Regularly liaising with the membership lead to evaluate the success of topics prepared and delivered
- Liaising with BPS Learn to confirm arrangements for the successful delivery of all learning events, including delivery of materials, timely access to events, and management of contract
- Attending steering group meetings (maximum four per year, online) to consider the progress and future of the CPD program To promote the benefits of DCP Membership to delegates.,
- Learners, in the support of a high-quality learning experience to support their emergent practice as early-career clinical psychologists
- Co-tutors aligned with the program, to ensure coherence of learner experience
- DCP Membership Lead, ensuring that the programme remains aligned with the strategic purpose of program delivery
- DCP Executive Committee via the DCP membership lead
- Early Career CPD Program steering group to consider the progress and future of the CPD program
- BPS Learn delivery team to ensure coherence of learner experience and management of own contract for services, A contract for services will be created to manage governance and payment of fees. The contract will cover a 12-month period, with potential for extension if the pilot of this program is successful., The tutor will liaise with DCP Member Networks lead to confirm activity and payment within the framework outlined below, with activities paid at the standard DCP rate of £350 per day.
- Webinar (Lead) - 1.5 days per event: To include preparation of materials, communication with co-facilitator, and delivery and management of a two-hour learning event
- Webinar (Co-facilitator) - 0.5 days per event: To familiarise self with materials prepared by the webinar lead and attend a two-hour webinar to facilitate discussions within breakout groups
- Workshop - 0.5 days per event: To facilitate a 90-minute discussion amongst delegates regarding their learning and application of learning to practice since the webinar
- Training - 0.25 days: To attend and engage in a BPS event to support preparation of materials for webinars
- Steering Group Meetings - 0.25 days per meeting: To attend quarterly 90-minute meetings with the steering group to reflect on progress and plans for programme development
Chartered Clinical Psychologist - Member of the Division of Clinical Psychology (DCP)
- At least five years of post-qualification experience working as a clinical psychologist in a healthcare setting
- Good attention to detail
- Experience in delivering training in a professional setting
- Significant knowledge of key topics of relevance to early career clinical psychologists (as specified in the topic list for the CPD program)
- Knowledge of appropriate use of copyright materials and permissions about own and third-party digital media
- Ability to maintain own attention and engagement in the delivery of a two-hour webinar
- Ability to maintain learners' attention and engagement in attending a two-hour webinar
- Scheduling, planning and organisation skills to allow preparation of materials within appropriate timescales
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills to maintain professional working relationships
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and to deadlines, prioritising work as needed., Experience in designing a program of training in a professional setting
- Knowledge of appropriate teaching techniques to design and deliver a high-quality learning experience in an online context
- Knowledge of digital delivery methods
- The ability to manage competing or strong opinions, and diffuse challenging situations
