Full Job Description

  • We'll look to you to deliver successful customer and business outcomes by sanctioning mortgage applications in accordance with current risk appetite, process, and procedures
  • You'll be responsible for underwriting both residential and non-residential customer mortgage applications across multiple channels on employed income through effective workload management and the application of credit processes and systems
  • You'll enjoy considerable variety as well as stakeholder interaction, responding to queries from customers and stakeholders promptly while reviewing manual or ineffective processes and identifying opportunities to improve our service, processes, and procedures
  • Depending on your level of experience, you'll be rewarded with a salary of between £24,750 - 27,500
  • What you'll do As an Underwriter, you'll be processing all applications within a delegated authority level, ensuring great customer and business outcomes. You'll manage your personal workload effectively to make sure agreed SLAs are met and quality output is attained, and you'll identify and support improvements to processes that will enhance efficiency and the customer experience. You'll do this by utilising appropriate tools such as the Process Health Check and you'll make appropriate use of credit tools and policies to effectively support the control of credit risk in your decision making. As well as this, you'll:
  • Support the robust risk and control frameworks in relation to judgmental lending which meet the strategic needs of the organisation, including the communication, training, and awareness of these frameworks
  • Support, coach, and mentor colleagues
  • Make appropriate use of credit processes and procedures to exercise credit policy within your mandatory authority
  • Support the team to achieve goals through active collaboration
  • Maintain an awareness of leadership tools, and participate in activities to drive improvements
  • Support the development of team performance and customer service by role modelling our core service behaviours and standards, and adopting leadership tools and techniques

    We're looking for someone with great written and spoken communication skills, a collaborative approach, and a background in customer service and delivery.
  • Along with good analytical skills and a keen eye for detail, you'll have the ability to work to tight deadlines and make calculations based on payslips and bank statements. Underwriting experience would be desirable but not essential, as you'll be working towards a Full Underwriting Mandate. You'll also demonstrate:
  • An awareness of changes in trends, policies, and regulations applicable to your business area
  • A self-motivated approach with the ability to work in a busy environment, managing your own and others' workloads effectively to meet customer demand
  • A thorough understanding of processes and banking systems
  • The ability to interpret information and provide analysis and solutions to support continuous improvement

    You'll join us on a competitive salary starting from £24,750 pro rata for the hours you work.
