Position

An opportunity has arisen for a permanent Visual field Technician/Orthoptic Support at University Hospital Crosshouse.

What you will do:

You will join the orthoptic department to provide orthoptic support services for the NHS Ayrshire & Arran orthoptic department. This involves clinical duties and a range of administrative and secretarial duties.

Clinical duties will include the assessment of visual fields which if not experienced in, will require you to undertake learning to develop knowledge and competency to perform Visual field testing on patients attending the eye clinics.

You will be required to liaise with  members of the multi-disciplinary ophthalmology directorate, medical records department, GPs, optometrists, health visitors, school nurses, community health clinic staff, and primary school and nursery school staff when co-ordinating and planning all pre-school and primary one eye testing for the NHS Ayrshire & Arran orthoptic department. 

You must have excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills and the ability to work independently, whilst being supportive of colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary ophthalmology team. You will be committed to providing a high standard of support and have a genuine interest in self-development and continuous learning.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:

You will possess either an SVQ III or have demonstrable evidence of being able to work at this level. 

You will have highly developed computer/technical skills and preferably experience and knowledge in Microsoft office packages.

You will have current/recent experience working in a healthcare setting and evidence of working effectively as part of a team.

Hours:

22 per week.

UK Driving Licence/Car Ownership:

UK Car licence/Car ownership is essential to this role. You may be working between University Hospital Crosshouse and University Hospital Ayr.
