1 x 36 hours, 52.14 weeks per year - Permanent

Recycling & Waste Services wish to recruit an individual to work as part of a small team to safely operate our Recycling Centres in accordance with Council policies and procedures.

Tasks include:

• Minimising the materials being deposited as mixed waste by helping to educate customers about separating items prior to arrival and providing information on what happens to the materials when they leave the site.
• Providing manual assistance to customers as and when required to unload their vehicles and help them to deposit materials in the appropriate containers.
• Enhancing the image of the Recycling Centres and maintain them in clean and tidy condition.
• Being polite, courteous and helpful to customers at all times.
• Being visible, meeting and greeting site visitors, to develop and sustain internal and external relationships that assist in the effective operation of the Recycling Centre.
• Assisting supervisors to ensure containers are serviced efficiently and safely and in a way that minimises disruption to customers separating their waste.
• Working as a team to ensure that non-permitted waste is not accepted, business waste is identified and the relevant paperwork completed on a daily basis.
• Operating compaction plant and equipment, carrying out routine maintenance checks and servicing and operating vehicle weighing systems.
• Being a key holder, responsible for the overall security of the site, plant, equipment and materials.
• Undertaking such other duties and responsibilities that may be reasonably required by the service.

Work Pattern

A set shift pattern which repeats every 3 weeks, working 14 days in 21 including 2 weekends. This pattern attracts a 12.5% shift allowance.

West Lothian has 5 Recycling Centres. A base location will be fixed prior to appointment, but you may be required to travel to other sites.
