Transforming learning and teaching, inspiring learners, improving attainment and supporting young people to achieve their potential is what we want our schools to achieve.

We are looking to appoint an experienced and highly motivated leader who can take forward the Council’s priorities for education and the drivers of change in the National Improvement Framework.

You can do this as a Head Teacher in one of our modern school buildings which are designed to deliver a 21st century curriculum.

We are looking to appoint a Head Teacher who is required to:

Manage the affairs of the school to the benefit of the pupils and the wider community in compliance with the requirements of the statutes relating to the provision of education and the general duty of care owed to staff and pupils.

Formulate clear aims for the school and policies to ensure their achievement within the framework of the Council’s policies.

Ensure the communication of these aims and policies to all staff, pupils, parents and other users of the school.

Act on behalf of the Council, as principal professional adviser to the Parent Council which is a separately constituted group to support parental engagement, family learning, and provide such advice and information as required, by the Parental Involvement Act 2006.

About the school:

A key feature in the work of the school is encouraging each young student to take increasing responsibility for his/her own life and learning. We provide as many opportunities as possible for this. Biggar High School offers a systematic progress from First Year towards the point when a pupil leaves school as a young adult, prepared to make his or her own decisions and able to live with the consequences of these decisions.

‘Responsibility’ includes responsibility for learning. The school is committed to helping every youngster to achieve his or her full potential in terms of examination success but just as important in every other aspect of life.

We work to ensure that teaching is of the highest quality and employ a wide range of strategies to support our learners. We want our pupils to become successful, independent, lifelong learners.

School is only one of the influences on this process of development. We will only achieve the best for our pupils in partnership with parent and the community at large.
