Who are we?

CodeBase is a tech ecosystem support organisation and startup incubator that helps people build better tech startups. We help people build and grow better tech startups through community, education, and workspace. 

CodeBase has created and delivers startup programmes for a number of organisations including the Scottish Government, the UK Government, Local Authorities and large corporations. We promote and facilitate collaboration in tech innovation by working with startups, scaleups, corporates, governments, academia, investors and the third sector. CodeBase also delivers scaleup and corporate programmes across industry verticals such as law, health and energy, which connect and educate corporates, startups and scaleups.

CodeBase has offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling, Aberdeen, Dundee, and Inverness.

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for an accomplished and adaptable Finance Manager. You’ll have experience of financial management reporting, enjoy analysing reports and making recommendations. You’ll have an understanding of the importance of accurate budgeting and confidence in analysing variances. We’re looking for a problem solver who can prioritise, manage expectations and communicate deadlines effectively while working in a fast paced environment. 

We’re looking for a great communicator who can build relationships with internal teams and external suppliers. You’ll be comfortable working as part of a small finance function (with an Assistant) within the Operations team and liaising with external accountants. You’ll enjoy working across projects and be able to give simple and effective guidance to ensure that financial policies are followed and effective records are kept.


What will you be doing?

  • Preparation and ownership of monthly management accounts (including P&L, journal postings and cashflow forecasting) 
  • Manage the budgeting process and quarterly re-forecasting with key stakeholders across the business, provide analysis and commentary on forecasting variances
  • Provide reports and analysis for internal and external stakeholders (including board of directors, external auditors and key contract stakeholders)
  • Managing the workload of the Finance Assistant, delegating tasks and supervising process changes
  • Supporting the Finance Assistant with finance and budget queries from the wider team 
  • Liaising with and providing information to external accountants and auditors (Payroll, VAT, annual accounts)
  • Identifying and implementing financial efficiencies


What do we need from you?

  • Experience of producing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and cashflow statements
  • Experience of managing forecasting processes and liaising with budget holders to ensure accuracy
  • Ability to provide financial analysis for reporting to stakeholders
  • Extensive experience of using online accounting software (we use Xero)
  • Excellent communication skills, online and in-person, internally and with external stakeholders

Please also tell us if you have:

  • A relevant accounting qualification (eg ACCA, ICAS, CIMA)
  • Experience of grant funding and reporting
  • Experience with using forecasting software (we use Futrli)
  • Experience of line management
  • An interest in the Scottish tech startup ecosystem


What we offer

  • £45k per annum
  • 4 day working week
  • 23 days holiday + 2 weeks off over Christmas and New Year (pro-rata)

About the job

Work Days: This role is 28 hours a week usually worked over 4 days . We are open to discussing alternative working patterns for applicants requiring flexibility

Location: Edinburgh – 37a Castle Terrace (close to main bus routes and train stations)

Start Date: 2nd June 2025

Contract: Temporary – Maternity Leave Cover – 11 months (to end of April with potential for extension)
