Full Job Description
The National Synod of Scotland of the United Reformed Church is seeking to employ a new part-time treasurer/accountant due to the pending retirement of the current post holder.
The National Synod of Scotland is a not-for-profit registered charity in Scotland and is one of thirteen synods within the UK that comprise the United Reformed Church. Our local churches in Scotland are also registered charities each with their own local treasurer to which it is expected that this post holder would offer a companion / advisory role.
The Treasurer/Accountant at the National Synod of Scotland of the United Reformed Church is responsible for ensuring the financial integrity and sustainability of the Synod. The purpose of the role is to oversee financial operations, including budgeting, accounting and financial reporting.
The Treasurer/Accountant role holders purpose will be to work closely with Synod leadership to support the mission and ministry of the Synod through effective financial stewardship and management.
The main responsibility will be to ensure proper management of the finances of the National Synod of Scotland and provide good governance in-line 2000 URC Act, the guidelines set forth by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR), and other relevant statutory bodies. This will require a thorough understanding of regulatory compliance and the implementation of best practices to uphold the integrity and financial health of the Synod.

This is a part-time position of 17hrs per week, one day of which is expected to be present in the Synod Office. The salary for these hours is £22,500 per annum.
It is envisaged that this post would commence from 1st November 2025 which would provide for an over-lap period, although this is flexible.

Holiday: Standard full-time equivalent holiday entitlement is 25 days per year, plus 10 Public Holidays per annum, to be taken as and when they fall, between 1 January and 31 December in any one year.
